The Economy
Either we all live in a decent world, or nobody does. In this day and time, this cannot be anything but obvious.
Private sector working people as well as public sector working people need the assurance that they will once again look forward to having their lives restored to a decent level. It can happen if the ongoing exploitation by the ultra-wealthy is ended.
There is a gap between the ultra-wealthy and America's middle class that has never been so vast. It is the responsibility of America's political leaders to recognize this; cease being the water-carriers for only the powerful; and to look to the roots of America's middle class, working people and restore to them that which once was the American Dream.
Millions of our fellow Americans have struggled as our familiar way of life has disintegrated in this economic crisis. Despite this crisis, I believe in the American people, I believe that America has more wealth and resources than any nation on earth and that we will rebound – but we need the right leadership in Washington to move forward successfully. I have worked in situations of economic devastation, I have seen what works and have shared and listened with many of you… we need to get suffering Americans back to work now.
Highlights
- 10% Unemployment
- “Good” Stimulus
- Targeted Tax Cuts
- Reducing the Deficit
10% Unemployment
As your next Congressman, I will work with Congressional colleagues to separate the pork from targeted infrastructure projects. Targeted infrastructure projects are long term, and create long term meaningful employment in each of our communities. Such a program of unemployment relief will ensure that the stresses that seek to tear our families apart are abated. Such a program will secure the way of life of life for us, our neighbors and our next generation.
“Good” Stimulus
I believe that in moments of severe economic crisis, wise federal government investment for targeted infrastructure projects can create quality jobs and assist in the rise of wealth and overall well being of our communities.
Here is my plan:
- Targeted infrastructure projects requiring professionals, such as, architects, professional engineers, and project managers.
- Once the plans are in place these targeted infrastructure projects will require skilled trades and craftsmen.
- Such projects will wisely provide an ongoing, measured stream of money into communities at a steady rate and for a long period of time.
These infrastructure projects will require money. But the wealth of our nation has been squander by Republican leaders and Congress over the last 30 years and has left our country with no other choice. We either restore our economy NOW to full employment or watch the American Dream slide away forever. Any plan that relies on Cutting Spending and giving tax cuts to the ultra-wealthy is doomed to complete failure.
Targeted Tax Cuts - I will work to enact immediate tax cuts to middle and lower income taxpayers. These tax cuts will be paid for in full from taxes of the CEO’s and Wall Street executives who took hundreds of billions out of our economy over the last 10 years. Middle and lower income working people spend tax cuts on necessities and their children’s education, increasing our national wealth. The Republican tax cuts of the last 10 years to CEO’s and Wall Street robber barons resulted in taxpayer dollars spent to play in the stock market and had no meaningful, positive economic effect.
Reducing the Deficit - The federal deficit for the forseeable future will be Trillions each year. Our nation cannot sustain this economic drain without threatening American families’ way of life. I believe that a sharp reduction in federal spending is critical to managing our deficit. Entrenched incumbents have taken too much special interest money and have overloaded legislation with pork-barrel spending. We have proven models that show deficit reduction is possible, like the Base Closing Commission. Working with other members of Congress, I will support Spending Control Commissions modeled after these Base Closing Commissions which have successfully closed over 100 bases, making our military more efficient and saving American taxpayers billions of dollars.
